August 9: Kazim-Richards' future in doubt
by Andy Naylor
The future of Colin Kazim-Richards is in doubt after he was omitted from the Albion squad for last night's win over Gillingham.
Kazim-Richards could be about to drift further out of contention, with the Seagulls expecting an answer today to their interest in signing Ipswich centre forward Sam Parkin.
To make matters worse for the Coca-Cola Kid, Jake Robinson, one of his rivals for a striking role, netted Albion's second half winner at Withdean.
Kazim-Richards, signed from Bury last summer with money won by fan Aaron Berry in a Coca-Cola competition, began on the bench in Saturday's opening 1-0 win at Rotherham.
He came on in the second half but was then replaced near the end by Robinson.
Manager Mark McGhee played down suggestions that Kazim-Richards has handed in a transfer request as a result of his exclusion last night.
McGhee said: "I can't confirm that. Colin was disappointing on Saturday and I left him out of the squad. That's as far as it goes."
McGhee's decision to play Robinson on the left wing in place of the suspended Dean Cox paid off as the 19-year-old volleyed in a cross from Paul Reid midway through the second half.
McGhee said: "Jake was put in because of the three available with Coxy suspended - Loft, Frutos and Jake - I felt Jake was the one most likely to get a goal, so I've been rewarded."
